The Kearny Town Council is comprised of a Mayor (two-year term) and six Council members who are elected at large to staggered four-year terms. Elections are strictly non-partisan. The Council serves as the legislative and policy-making body for the town in an effort to meet the needs of the community and plan for future needs in an effective and representative manner.
Appointing of Offices
The Town Council appoints the Town Manager, Town Clerk, Chief of Police and Town Attorney, as well as the members of the various citizen advisory boards, commissions, and ad-hoc committees.
Meetings
Town Council Meetings have a regular schedule, meeting every third Monday of the month, unless otherwise published. Meetings are held in the Council Chamber located at 374 Alden Road beginning at 7:00 p.m.
Any person wishing to address the Town Council on any matter, whether or not it appears on the agenda, may do so under the public communications portion of the agenda. Each individual is required to complete a Request to Speak Form and is allowed three minutes to address the council. No action will be taken on any items not on the agenda.
All Town Council meetings are open to the public except for Executive Sessions.
Agendas are posted at least 24-hours prior to meetings. Copies are posted at Town Hall, the Post Office, and the town website.
